Each unit carries its own cryptographic identity and must pass a challenge–response handshake before the network trusts it. A cloned or counterfeit device simply never gets in.
Updates are cryptographically signed. A device verifies every byte before switching over — and if anything is wrong, it rolls itself back. No update can ever brick your Rove or a RoveConnect out in the field.
Roves keep their power-hungry radios off until there's a reason to transmit. Less airtime means longer battery — and a smaller footprint.
Device-to-device messaging needs no internet at all — the mesh keeps working when every other network is down, and the RoveConnect network is monitored and maintained so it stays that way.

Messaging device-to-device on your own mesh needs no SIM, no activation, and no fees — ever. As the RoveConnect network grows, an optional subscription will unlock it for extended range far beyond your personal mesh.
LoRa range depends on terrain — open line of sight reaches much further than dense urban canyons or forest. We don't publish a number until we've measured it ourselves in the field, and we won't quote one we haven't. What we can say: every extra Rove or RoveConnect in between extends the mesh, because devices relay for each other.
Both, in that order. Your devices form their own mesh out of the box — no setup, and it works completely standalone. But every Rove is also designed to relay for every other Rove, strangers included: messages are encrypted end to end, so a relay passes along words it cannot read. You never run infrastructure — every device added makes the shared network reach further for everyone.
Licence-free ISM bands. In North America that's the 915 MHz band, and no radio licence is required. RoveMesh ships a North American model only.
No — RoveMesh is built for text and location, not voice. That's a deliberate trade: text over LoRa travels further, uses a fraction of the power, and keeps working in conditions that break everything else.
No — and this is the one thing to be clear about. Rove sends text and location to other Rove units. It is not an SOS device, it does not reach emergency services, and it does not replace a satellite emergency beacon. If you are going somewhere you might need rescue, carry a beacon. Rove is how your group stays together the rest of the time.
Every update is cryptographically signed, verified on-device before it runs, and rolled back automatically if anything fails — a device can't be bricked by an update. RoveConnect units fetch their own firmware over their internet connection and pass it to Rove units near them. Updates are managed by us rather than something you trigger, and they reach devices close to a RoveConnect — not the whole mesh at once.
